Still Life with Blue Glass and Citrus (OPA portfolio piece) — 12 × 16 oil on stretched canvas

$995.00

A quiet arrangement of light, form, and presence.

In this painting, cool morning light spills across the surface, illuminating a small blue glass vessel, a folded white cloth, and a bowl of citrus. The blue glass catches and refracts the light in soft turquoise tones, casting a luminous reflection that contrasts with the warm oranges nestled in the bowl. Nearby, two heads of garlic rest in shadow, their pale surfaces holding subtle shifts of violet, cream, and grey.

This piece explores the conversation between warm and cool color, solidity and transparency, and the way light moves across different surfaces. The translucent glass, matte ceramic bowl, and textured organic forms each respond differently, creating a quiet rhythm across the composition.

Painted slowly and deliberately from life, this work reflects my ongoing study of classical still life painting and my commitment to careful observation. The simplicity of the objects allows the light itself to become the true subject.

This painting was included in the portfolio that contributed to my acceptance as a member of Oil Painters of America, marking an important milestone in my development as an oil painter.
