Copper Pitcher and Lemon (OPA portfolio piece) — 8 × 10 inches, oil on canvas panel

$415.00

Copper Pitcher and Lemon was painted during a pivotal period when I returned to working seriously in oil, focusing on careful observation, restraint, and the quiet structure of light across simple forms. The warm reflective surface of the copper pitcher gathers and softens light, while the lemon offers a cooler, living contrast against the calm blue cloth beneath them.

Copper reflects not only light but atmosphere. Its surface holds subtle shifts in temperature and value, creating depth through reflection rather than outline. The lemon, by contrast, absorbs light, its quieter surface allowing the warmth of the pitcher to emerge more fully. Together, they create a study in balance between warmth and coolness, reflection and solidity.

This painting was part of the portfolio submitted with my application to Oil Painters of America and contributed directly to my acceptance into the organization. It represents a moment of recommitment to oil painting and to the disciplined practice of working from life.
